Java/Systems Engineer
Where, Inc. is the developer and publisher of the award winning location-based service WHERE® and the WHERE Ads™ Network. WHERE is a leading local search and recommendation service, helping people discover the world around them and enabling local merchants to connect with a local audience.As a software engineer at Where, you will be able to research and develop cutting edge technologies to accomplish these missions. Our solutions need to be scalable and robust, as well as simple and easy for our end users. As an developer/systems engineer, you will be working on core APIs and systems components. The ideal candidate will have:
- BS degree in Computer Science
- Solid foundation in software design and development
- Experience with Java, Spring, MySQL, Linux shell and shell scripting
- Experience with Apache MapReduce, Lucene, Cassandra is preferred
- A general passion for fun (and foosball)

Ruby on Rails Developer
Come work on a greenfield project at a profitable startup. Where, Inc. is building a great team of engineers to head up its web applications development. We’re hiring multiple Rails developers and are looking for all levels of solid software engineering experience.

The ideal candidate is…
- an excellent coder with an intuitive grasp of technology
- passionate about coding
- has web development experience and an enthusiasm for Ruby (Rails experience a plus)
- UI skills a plus (javascript, css, html, etc), but should be secondary to backend skills
- not afraid to learn and figure things out for themselves
- not a sysadmin but knows their way around linux or mac systems
- comfortable with Agile practices, Test Driven Development (TDD), and Pair Programming
- contributes to open source projects
- has a computer science degree

- server side software engineering practices
- ruby/rails knowledge a big plus but not essential
- HTML/CSS/JS
- command line environments (Linux / OSX)

Senior Java Developer

As a senior Java developer at Where, you will be working on our core APIs and systems components. We look for individuals with a creative zest for problem solving and value the ability to think and act quickly. The ideal candidate will have:
- 5+ years experience focused on server-side API development
- Web/mobile application background preferred, but talent is what we value most
- Solid foundation in software design and development
- Experience with Java, Spring, and MySql/NoSql technologies
- Familiarity with UNIX/Linux and Windows environments
- Excellent communication skills and proven ability to lead development teams
- BS degree in Computer Science
- A general passion for fun (and foosball)
